In spring 2024, I was excited to begin a collaboration with renowned cinematographer Joe Foley and renowned director and School of Media Arts and Design professor at JMU, Imelda O’Reily. As choreographer for “Under the Wolf’s Cloak 360°,” the vision was a film for the planetarium, filmed with an Insta360 camera and two traditional cameras. Choreographing in a circle for this adventure was especially interesting. As a choreographer you are often choreographing for the outside perspective of a proscenium or in the round and the extra challenge of the camera being in the center of the action was a really exciting shift.
The choreography was created with the dancers during six VRDC (Virginia Repertory Dance Company) classes. We filmed two days in the studio with Joe Foley and then we filmed some pick-up shots two additional days with Joe as well at the Arboretum with 8 selected VRDC dancers.
